New 2025 Porsche Macan Details:
Overview
The new 2025 Porsche Macan has built a solid reputation over the years as one of the most exciting compact luxury SUVs to drive. When it launched about a decade ago, it quickly became the go-to choice for those who wanted sporty performance and SUV practicality.
While rivals like the Audi Q5 and BMW X3 hit the market earlier, the Macan offered something different — real driving enjoyment. Even today, with newer models and tech-filled competitors, the Macan still holds its ground thanks to Porsche’s expert tuning and sharp handling.
For 2025, the gas-powered Macan sticks with its proven formula and continues on the same platform. Meanwhile, Porsche has also introduced the all-electric Macan EV, but that’s a separate model on a brand-new platform.
Under the hood, the standard Macan comes with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 261 horsepower — plenty for daily driving. With a 2.9-liter V6 twin-turbo engine producing 375 horsepower, the Macan S is the ideal vehicle if you desire more power. (For even more power, Porsche also offers the 434-hp Macan GTS, reviewed separately.)
Though it’s not the most spacious SUV in its class, and its infotainment system is starting to show its age, the Macan makes up for these flaws with its sports car-like handling and balanced ride. That’s why it’s on the 2025 10 Best Trucks and SUVs list — and also one of our Editors’ Choice picks for the year.
What’s New for 2025?
Porsche hasn’t made any major changes to the gas-powered Macan for the 2025 model year. It keeps the same design, engine choices, and features from the previous version, but it still performs like a champ.

Pricing and Which One to Buy
The 2025 Porsche Macan lineup starts at:
- Base – $64,895
- Macan T – $70,495
- Macan S – $76,495 (Recommended)
If you’re looking for the best mix of value and performance, we recommend the Macan S. Its V6 engine brings more speed and excitement compared to the base four-cylinder.
Standard features on the Macan S include:
- 10.9-inch touchscreen display
- 10-speaker sound system
- LED headlights
We also suggest going for the Premium Package, which adds:
- Heated front and rear seats
- Adaptive LED headlights
- A 14-speaker upgraded audio system
And if you’re serious about driving fun, add the Sport Chrono Package, which includes:
- Multiple drive modes
- Launch control
- Enhanced throttle and transmission response
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The base model with its 2.0-liter turbocharged engine does just fine in the city, offering smooth acceleration and responsive power. But if you’re a driving enthusiast, the Macan S with its twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6 is where the fun begins.
The Macan S delivers quick acceleration and a thrilling exhaust note. The car’s athletic personality is nicely complemented by the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, which shifts gears smoothly and swiftly.
What really makes the Macan special is how it handles. Even though it’s an SUV, it feels more like a low-slung sports sedan on twisty roads. The steering is direct and precise, giving you confidence in corners. The suspension is firm but well-damped, so you get a smooth ride without sacrificing handling. Whether you’re driving on a curvy road or just commuting in traffic, the Macan feels stable, composed, and always ready to go.
0–60 MPH Times
In our testing, the base Macan with the turbocharged four-cylinder engine went from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.0 seconds, which is quick for a small SUV. However, the Macan S, which has a twin-turbo V6 engine and can reach 60 mph in 3.8 seconds, is the true star. That’s almost sports car territory and not far behind the more powerful Macan GTS, which does it in 3.5 seconds. The Macan S even outruns rivals like the Audi SQ5 and Jaguar F-Pace S. Honestly, no one needs an SUV that accelerates this fast, but if you enjoy power and speed, you’ll love this Porsche.

Towing and Payload Capacity
It may surprise you to learn that a Porsche SUV can tow, but it can. The base Macan can pull up to 2000 pounds, while the Macan S and GTS models (with the V6 engine) boost that number to 2400 pounds. So, whether it’s a small trailer or a pair of dirt bikes, the Macan is ready for the job, while still looking and feeling like a luxury machine.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
According to the EPA:
- Base Macan (2.0L turbo four-cylinder):
19 mpg city / 25 mpg highway
- Macan S (2.9L twin-turbo V6):
17 mpg city / 23 mpg highway
But here’s the good news—during our real-world 75-mph highway test, the Macan S averaged 26 mpg, which is better than the EPA estimate. So, even with the extra power, it’s still fairly efficient on the highway.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The Macan’s interior looks nice but doesn’t feel quite as upscale as you’d expect from a Porsche, at least not without adding expensive options. The standard seats are power-adjustable and comfortable, but most other luxury features cost extra.
For example, if you want leather covering on the dashboard and doors, it’ll cost you around $2230. The rear seat is also tighter than what you’ll find in many rivals, meaning passengers in the back might feel a little cramped.
Cargo space is limited, too. There’s room for six carry-on bags behind the rear seats, and if you fold those seats down, you can fit up to 16 bags. That should be enough for weekend getaways or shopping trips, but the Macan focuses more on driving enjoyment than practicality.
Infotainment and Connectivity
Although the Macan’s infotainment system has many features, most of them are expensive. That said, it comes standard with Apple CarPlay and a Wi-Fi hotspot, so you’ll have the basics for staying connected.
There are USB ports and 12-volt outlets around the cabin for charging devices. However, Android Auto is still not available on any Macan model, which might disappoint some Android users.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
Porsche offers a range of driver-assistance features on the Macan, but only a few are standard. For full safety tech like adaptive cruise control or automatic emergency braking, you’ll need to pay extra.
Key safety features include:
- Standard lane-departure warning
- Available automated emergency braking
- Available adaptive cruise control
For crash test ratings, you can check with NHTSA or IIHS.
